Eisenhower knows the drill.
The Eagles are 0-1 following a Xenith Prep Kickoff Classic loss, and now they turn their attention to a Macomb County football opponent and the opportunity to rebound.
The MAC Red Division team faced the same scenario in 2018.
“We’ve got to bounce back next week,” senior Steven Nadolski said after the Eagles were blanked 7-0 by Brother Rice at Wayne State on Thursday.
Eisenhower plays Cousino in Week 2 in the renewal of the Red/Blue crossover weekend, which usually produces one-sided scores in favor of the Red teams.
Eisenhower lost to Oak Park in the PKC last year and then beat the Patriots in Week 2.
Nadolski summarized what will be important in the days leading to the Cousino game.
“Stick together, talk, don’t get mad at your teammates,” he said. “It’s a family.”
Eisenhower wasn’t able to convert chances to crack the scoreboard against Brother Rice.
The Eagles got to the 19-yard line following a turnover in the first quarter, but lost yardage and wound up throwing two long incomplete passes into the end zone.
Eisenhower was on the Warriors’ side of the 50 in the final minute of the game, but turned the ball over on downs.
“You’ve got to make plays,” coach Chris Smith said.
Neither team conceded much in the first meeting between the two high-profile programs.
“It was a dogfight -- definitely a dogfight,” Brother Rice senior linebacker Cameron Terrill said.
Terrill had five tackles for losses. The Warriors had eight sacks.
For Eisenhower, Anthony Cardamone, Ian West, Mario Getaw and Nadolski were busy.
“We’ve got to get better on offense,” Smith said after the Eagles were shut out for the first time since 2013.
“We’ve got to get better up front, but we’re going to get some guys back there, and hopefully that’ll help us.”
